BUDDHA IN THE BHUMISPARSA MUDRA
This gesture signifies
unshakeable faith and enlightenment, with the left hand lies in
the lap, the right hand resting on the knee, the middle fingers
slightly touching the ground with the palm inward. During
meditation, Siddhartha was subjected to many temptations many
posed by the evil Mara, who bombarded him with his
demons, monsters, violent storms and his three seductive
daughters. Buddha called upon the Earth Goddess, Thorani, with
this hand gesture
to be his witness to the conquest of Mara
and his army of demons.
